Yoon Yeo-jeong reveals for the first time that her eldest son is gay

Actress Yoon Yeo-jeong has confessed for the first time that her eldest son is in a same-sex marriage.

The movie “The Wedding Banquet” is a remake of the movie of the same name by director Ang Lee, which was released in 1993 and won the Golden Bear, the highest award at the Berlin International Film Festival, as well as five awards including Best Picture at the Golden Horse Awards, Taiwan’s equivalent of the Oscars.

Actor Han Ki-chan plays the main character Min, appearing as Yoon Yeo-jeong’s son. Min, a gay Korean student studying abroad, tries to obtain permanent residency through a fake marriage, but faces difficulties when his grandmother comes from Korea unannounced, saying, “I want to see my son’s wife in person.”

Yoon Yuh-jung reveals her son was married to a person of the same sex.

In response to the question, “I heard that one of the reasons you empathize with this character is because your son is gay,” she confessed, “My eldest son came out in 2000.”

Yoon Yeo Jeong said, “We had our wedding when same-sex marriage was legalized in New York. Because it was a secret in Korea, the whole family went to New York,” and added, “Now I love my son-in-law more than my son.”

New York legalized same-sex marriage in 2011. It became the sixth state in the United States to recognize same-sex marriage, following Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Iowa, and Vermont.

Yoon Yeo Jeong married singer Cho Young Nam in 1974 and has two sons. After divorcing Cho Young Nam in 1987, she has been raising her two sons alone.
