IU’s Malicious Commenter: Middle School Alumni Behind Harassment

On November 11, 2024, IU’s agency, EDAM Entertainment, revealed shocking details about IU’s malicious commenter. According to the agency, the individual behind the harassment is believed to be an alumni of IU’s middle school. This revelation came as part of an update on the ongoing legal actions against those involved in malicious online harassment targeting IU.

In an official statement, EDAM Entertainment confirmed that they had filed complaints against various malicious commenters for illegal actions, including threats, insults, defamation, and false rumors. The agency highlighted cases of malicious comment spread by individuals who had engaged in defamation, sexual harassment, and distribution of explicit content. They emphasized that the legal action is aimed at stopping these malicious commenters and holding them accountable.

So far, EDAM Entertainment has reported that approximately 180 individuals have been identified as suspects in connection with these illegal acts. The agency has continued to file complaints, and legal proceedings are actively ongoing. Among the results of these actions, six individuals have received fines under summary prosecution, three have been given conditional suspensions of indictment with mandatory education, and one person has been placed under conditional suspension with probation supervision. One individual who engaged in cyberbullying and malicious comments about IU, including false death threats and sexual harassment, received a fine of 3 million KRW. However, the defendant has appealed, and the case is awaiting the final outcome.

In a startling twist, EDAM Entertainment revealed that one of the malicious commenters targeting IU through an overseas server is believed to be an individual from IU’s middle school. The agency expressed its concern that this malicious commenter has continued their harassment despite ongoing legal actions. The agency reassured fans that steps are being taken to address this issue, and the situation is being handled with the seriousness it deserves.

Furthermore, the agency shared that the investigation into another individual who spread false rumors about IU (specifically, espionage allegations) had been prolonged due to the suspect’s refusal to cooperate. However, investigative authorities have now forwarded the case to the prosecution, and legal action is underway.

EDAM Entertainment reiterated that they have no intention of settling or offering leniency to any malicious commenters. The agency is committed to holding these individuals accountable and will continue to pursue legal action until justice is served. They urged all individuals engaged in malicious commenting and other illegal online activities to stop immediately.
