Park Bo Young and Park Jin Young Star in Netflix’s ‘Our Unwritten Seoul’

Park Bo Young is making her comeback in a K-drama that is already intriguing many viewers. “Our Unwritten Seoul” is an ambitious project, in which the actress plays not one, but four different roles, which promises to captivate fans’ attention.

This K-drama is driven by a moving story that addresses themes such as inner fatigue, the search for self-discovery, and how each person copes with life.

The K-drama will premiere on May 24th on tvN, a network hoping this series will mark a return to success after several failures. Indeed, after disappointing ratings for some of its previous projects, the network is banking heavily on “Our Unwritten Seoul.”

The K-drama “Resident Playbook,” which recently recorded a 6% rating, gave tvN renewed hope after a difficult period where ratings often remained below 1%.

The script for this new series is by Lee Kang, who is returning after writing the highly acclaimed “Youth of May.” She shared that this story was born from a personal reflection: “What if my twin sister could live my life instead of me? Would it be better?”

She added, “It’s something I’ve personally experienced. And I hope this K-drama will help people be kinder to themselves.”

Lee Kang also explained that the story of “Our Unwritten Seoul” speaks to the invisible exhaustion that many people feel, even if, on the outside, everything seems fine. It also addresses self-hatred, a theme close to her heart.

Indeed, she stated that these feelings are part of her own journey and that she hopes this series can bring some comfort to those who identify with this inner suffering.

The plot follows twin sisters, Yoo Mi Ji and Yoo Mi Rae, who swap lives, each seeking to rediscover their true selves. Mi Ji is a former athlete who leads a free and unconstrained life, while Mi Rae, a civil servant, follows a strict and orderly routine.

The story takes place in Seoul and the quiet village of Duson-ri, highlighting the contrasts between these two lifestyles. Lee Kang has also stated that each location will be presented differently, depending on the perspective of the sister present, adding a deeper dimension to the story.

However, what makes this K-drama particularly intriguing is the exceptional challenge faced by Park Bo Young. She not only plays one of the twin sisters, but also portrays two other characters.

This means that the actress will play four different roles, a rare feat in the world of K-drama. This multifaceted performance adds complexity to the story, with characters that intersect and complement each other.

Alongside her are Park Jin Young and Ryu Kyung Soo. Park Jin Young plays Lee Ho Soo, a brilliant lawyer tormented by a life he finds too mundane. Ryu Kyung Soo plays Han Se Jin, a former city dweller turned rural farmer, seeking closure.

The actors were praised for their collaboration, with the creative team stating, “Their characterizations went far beyond what was written in the script.” They added, “Their understanding of emotions will add additional depth to the K-drama.”

After the disappointments of the K-dramas “The Potato Lab” and “When the Stars Gossip,” tvN is banking heavily on “Our Unwritten Seoul” to revive its reputation.

Thanks to an original storyline, sincere writing, and a promising cast, this series could well breathe new life into the channel and captivate a wide audience.

What do you think of this ambitious new project, on which tvN has high hopes?
