What’s going on with Newjeans and Ador

Tensions Between NewJeans and ADOR Escalate: Contract Termination and Hopes for Resolution.

The conflict between the popular K-pop group NewJeans and their agency ADOR, a subsidiary of HYBE, has reached its peak as the group officially announced the termination of their exclusive contract. Despite ADOR’s efforts to clarify its position and express a desire to resolve the issues, NewJeans stood firm in their decision.

On November 28, NewJeans held an emergency press conference to declare the termination of their contract, effective midnight on November 29. The members stated that while they will honor all pre-scheduled commitments, they no longer wish to work under ADOR or HYBE. Instead, they expressed their desire to collaborate in the future with Min Hee-jin, ADOR’s former CEO, signaling their intent to pursue creative independence.

NewJeans’ Stance

During the press conference, the group explained that their decision followed repeated yet ignored attempts to address breaches of their contract. They stated, “On November 13, we sent a final request to ADOR to rectify multiple violations of their contractual obligations. After 14 days without resolution, we decided to take action.” The members highlighted that ADOR had consistently avoided meaningful communication, leaving them no choice but to proceed with termination.

NewJeans emphasized that their decision was not taken lightly, explaining, “Remaining under ADOR would only result in further emotional distress. We have fulfilled all our contractual duties, and the termination is solely due to ADOR’s failures. Therefore, we are not liable for any penalties.”

ADOR’s Response

In a detailed 26-page reply to NewJeans’ legal notice, ADOR expressed regret over the situation and maintained that they had worked diligently to address the group’s concerns. ADOR’s CEO, Kim Joo-young, shared an emotional statement, saying, “We carefully reviewed all requests, but certain issues required more time or were beyond our control. Despite the short timeline, we did our best.”

Kim also mentioned that HYBE’s CEO had offered full support for the group’s global ambitions and expressed hope that NewJeans might reconsider their decision.

Looking Ahead

While NewJeans prepares to embark on a new chapter, ADOR has reaffirmed its openness to dialogue. For now, the group remains resolute in reclaiming their autonomy and securing the rights to their name, “NewJeans,” as they seek to chart their own path in the competitive K-pop industry. Fans worldwide are eagerly watching, rallying behind the group’s courage and determination.
