WEi’s Junseo Sparks Controversy in ‘Boys Planet 2’

In the latest episode of “Boys Planet 2,” which aired on July 24th, the evaluation performances of the other contestants, which had not been shown in previous episodes, immediately attracted attention. One of the most talked-about performances was Kim Junseo from the group WEi.

Upon news of his participation on “Boys Planet 2,” his name immediately became a topic of conversation, raising high expectations for his talent, especially since he had already topped the rankings before the program began.

Performing a seamless performance of ENHYPEN’s “Sweet Venom,” Junseo performed the song from start to finish, and the video became a hot topic among netizens on social media. While most reactions to Junseo’s performance were positive, many netizens felt their expectations were too high after seeing his evaluation.

Kim Junseo himself began his idol career in the project group 1THE9 in 2019, and after the group’s disbandment, he re-debuted with a new group, WEi, in 2020. Having been in the idol world for approximately six years, netizens felt that Junseo’s performance in the initial evaluation of “Boys Planet 2” was lacking, especially his vocals, which were said to be weak.

Some netizen comments included, “Seriously, is this him singing?”, “Why did he choose this song? It doesn’t suit his voice at all,” “Didn’t he practice first?”, “My expectations were too high,” “Enhypen’s song “Sweet Venom” is indeed difficult, especially when sung alone. Well, his performance is quite good, not that bad. Mostly good but not bad. At least, his vocal tone is okay,” “He’s not the main vocalist, in a group it’s rare to have all-rounder skills, that’s already pretty good & he also helps his 2-star trainees in the same group to practice, unfortunately his ability still can’t make it to the all-stars, it’s surprising that he should be able to make it to the all-stars The judges are too strict with him, it seems like he’s not a trainee chosen by Mnet, but it seems like the vote will be good, maybe he can make it to the finals,” and others.

On the other hand, many netizens felt that Junseo’s performance wasn’t bad, considering that he was the lead dancer and sub-vocalist in WEi, so his singing skills were considered quite good.
