[Exclusive] Park Seo-jin Accused of Faking Mental Illness to Avoid Military Service

The public opinion of singer Park Seo-jin is hot. He is accused of deceiving the public when it was later uncovered that he had previously stated his intention to enlist but was found to be exempt from military service. The KBS Audience Center and the Military Manpower Administration have both received petitions and concerns over this.

It was confirmed that the complainant, Mr. A, filed a complaint on the first with the title, “We urge the Military Manpower Administration to take special measures to clearly confirm the authenticity of Park Seo-jin’s decision to be exempted from military service and prevent social confusion in the military service administration.”

According to the complaint, Mr. A stated: “Park Seo-jin revealed his ‘feelings about joining the military’ in three media interviews in March, October, and July this year,” completing, “However, when it became known that Park Seo-jin was exempted from military service in his early 20s, the above interview was surrounded by ‘suspicion of lying.'”

He continued, “After the news of Park Seo-jin’s exemption from military service was announced on the 28th of last month, the contents of the interview with Park Seo-jin, which was reported by MBC (iMBC), were publicly discussed online, and the article was suddenly revised on the 29th,” adding, “MBC is judged to have revised the article at the request of Park Seo-jin’s agency, and the agency’s act of attempting to revise last year’s article itself can be interpreted as an intention to conceal its intentions.

He said, “Park Seo-jin expressed his ‘heart about joining the military’ in interviews with three media outlets last year and this year because he was ‘exempted from military service’ at that time, and just as Yoo Ah-in was finally exempted from military service after five re-physical examinations (7th grade) and finally was exempted from military service (5th grade), we cannot help but seriously suspect that Park Seo-jin was only recently exempted from military service obligation after the re-physical examination.”

At the same time, Mr. A said, “In order for the MMA to become a government department that is more trusted by the people, it is necessary to clear up the noise surrounding singer Park Seo-jin,” adding, “I strongly urge the MMA to take special measures to prevent social confusion by clearly confirming the facts regarding the ‘timing of the decision on Park Seo-jin’s exemption from military service.'”

Previously, it was revealed on the 29th that Park Seo-jin had been exempted from military service due to depression and sleep disorders in his early twenties. Until recently, Park Seo-jin had stated in media appearances that “I have a goal that I want to achieve before joining the military,” but it was later shown that he was lying.

This prompted a viewers’ petition to suspend Park Seo-jin’s appearance on KBS, followed by another complaint and a request from the Military Manpower Administration for him to join the military.

Park Seo-jin’s mental condition is attributed to his poor family history. On the 49th day of my third brother’s severe renal failure, my eldest brother, who was battling liver cancer, died from the side effects of a liver transplant. His mother was also diagnosed with stage 3 uterine disease, so Park Seo-jin dropped out of high school in his first year to pay for hospital bills and make ends meet, and he began working as a sailor alongside his father. Park Seo Jin has disclosed this family history countless times on broadcast.

There is also a viewer petition that disputes Park Seo-jin’s mental disorder. Mr. B, the petitioner, stated in his petition filed on the 30th of last month that he saw Park Seo Jin while working as an entertainment reporter more than ten years ago, and that “Park Seo Jin was doing all he wanted to do, and his followers paid him the rent. Clearly, despite his mental disorder, he has remained joyful and constant in the face of unknowns.”

He also stated, “As a reporter in the past, I reported on Park Seo-jin’s activities, but I believe there is something concealed behind this occurrence. It is exceedingly unusual for him to be spared from military service because of his family history, depression, and insomnia,” he stated, adding, “I want to tell you that ten years ago, (Park Seo-jin) did not have a single 1% of depression and mental disease.”

The complaint was filed by Mr. A. He told this publication, “As there is currently a petition on the KBS bulletin board by a person who claims to be a ‘former entertainment reporter,’ the agency’s refusal to provide a detailed explanation will raise suspicions about Park Seo-jin’s exemption from military service,” further observing, “I hope that he will fulfill his social responsibilities as a celebrity.”
