At the latest hearing, it was announced that ADOR won the lawsuit filed by the members of NewJeans regarding the validity of their contract. This victory means that ADOR will remain the legal agency overseeing NewJeans until 2029, the legally binding end date of their exclusive contract.
NewJeans members are prohibited from engaging in any independent activities without ADOR’s permission. If the members agree to return to the agency, they can resume their entertainment activities as usual. However, if they decide to sever ties with ADOR, it is likely that NewJeans will not be able to return until 2029, whether as a full group or individually.
Previously, the court attempted mediation twice in August and September, but the two sides were unable to reach an agreement. The final decision on the substantive grounds was made on the same day.
The lawsuit began when NewJeans claimed that “ADOR’s contract had already been terminated due to a breach of the exclusive contract” since last year, announcing their independent activities. In response, ADOR filed a lawsuit in December of last year to confirm the validity of the exclusive contract, stating, “The contract is still in effect,” and requested a temporary injunction to prohibit the members’ independent activities until a ruling on the substantive grounds.
In light of this, Korean netizens on the Instiz forum shared their reactions and opinions, commenting as follows:
- Three more years… that’s too short a time.
- We can endure three more years, and I’m sure their appeal will still be strong. Will they have to pay damages if they terminate the contract?
- The issue here is damages and penalties, right? That would be a huge deal for them. Isn’t each of them worth 100 million?
- This is what they chose, so… let it be.
- Three years isn’t that long ㅋㅋㅋ compared to what they’ve done.
- With a group like NewJeans, people will still be talking about them even after three years.
- Shouldn’t it be four years? Why is everyone talking about three years?
- Because only one month remains in 2025, so the count starts from 2026.
- In 2029, Haerin will only be twenty-two??? Oh my god, she still has a long way to go in her career.
- They started their career in 2022, so if they can promote normally over the next three years until 2029, they will definitely earn huge profits.
- But the members will still be very young in 2029. So I think they’ll insist on terminating their contracts and wait for them to expire without reactivating them.
What do you think?
