NewJeans Announces Contract Termination, Expresses Desire to Work with CEO Min Heejin

On November 28, NewJeans held an emergency press conference at the Daehwa Building in Samseong-dong, Gangnam, Seoul, to announce their official decision to terminate their exclusive contract with ADOR, a HYBE subsidiary. This bold move marks a significant turning point for the group amidst ongoing tensions with their agency.

Minji, speaking on behalf of the group, revealed their reasons for parting ways: “We can no longer work with ADOR and HYBE due to breaches of contract and a complete loss of trust.” She also expressed their hope to collaborate directly with CEO Min Hee-jin, a key figure in the controversy: “We strongly wish to work with CEO Min Hee-jin again.”

The mention of Min Hee-jin, known for her creative vision and early contributions to the group’s success, hints at a potential desire for a new direction, separate from HYBE’s management.

When questioned about Bang Si-hyuk, the founder of HYBE, Minji’s response was terse but telling: “I have nothing to say to Bang Si-hyuk.” Her words underscored the strained relationship between the group and the higher-ups at HYBE.

Minji also shed light on the underlying issues: “This situation stems from a lack of mutual respect. Despite raising concerns about unfair practices multiple times, no improvements were made. Ultimately, trust was irreparably broken.”

Despite the challenges, NewJeans assured fans of their commitment to fulfilling all scheduled activities. However, uncertainty remains about their ability to continue using the name “NewJeans.” The members vowed to fight for their trademark rights, emphasizing its deep significance to them: “We will do everything we can to retain the name NewJeans.”

The press conference provided a candid glimpse into the group’s struggles and aspirations, earning widespread sympathy and support from fans. As they navigate this turbulent chapter, NewJeans remains determined to protect their identity and redefine their path in the industry.
