Recently, Lisa won Best K-Pop at the MTV Video Music Awards for her track “Born Again,” featuring Raye and Doja Cat. A netizen shared a screenshot of the story, which was later deleted, on the Korean forum Nate, criticizing her choice of words, “It’s not even BLINKs, it’s individual fans saying, ‘We won, lol,’ even though they know all the members were nominated…”

The post compared lisa’s reaction to Rosé’s Best Song acceptance speech at the ceremony, “Rosé, who won the daesang, mentioned BLINKs and acted humble.”

The OP also pointed to the controversy about whether Lisa deserved the award, “But Lisa, the most un-Kpop-like person, who wouldn’t have won without the full vote, posted like this. It’s really annoying. Did she do it on purpose?”

The post concluded his post with, “Actually, don’t Lisa’s fans and everyone else know?” Jennie clearly should have won this nomination.”

Korean Netizens React:

Reactions to Lisa’s story were mixed. Some netizens pointed out that Lisa ignored Blinks (Blackpink’s fans), while others considered her win undeserved compared to Jennie, especially since the song was entirely in English and performed by non-Korean singers.

  • “They have no sense… That fan and that star look alike.”
  • “If your Jennie deserves the award, would you vote for her a little more? If you had used the time to spy on Lisa’s Instagram to vote, she would have won ㅠㅠ What are we doing~~”
  • “It seems this tour will be Blackpink’s last. They may no longer be active as a group.”
  • “You’re wrong: These are just business partners. Expecting real friendships or a familial relationship between them is just an illusion. Now is the time for each of them to embark on their own solo careers, and it’s only natural for them to care about their fans.”
  • “All the members were nominated, and she’s saying, ‘We won’?” This is really immature behavior. Are her bandmates her enemies?
  • “Her bandmates were also nominated, but her behavior wasn’t nice; it seemed thoughtless.”
  • “Congratulations to Lisa for winning the VMAs three years in a row, but don’t distort public opinion and say Jennie doesn’t have a fanbase. I was wondering who was attacking Jennie using Jisoo’s name on women’s forums, and it turns out they’re Lisa’s fans.”
  • “Even in America, Jennie’s core fanbase is larger. Lisa fans, wake up from your delusions.”
  • “She could have just written ‘Thank you Lilies,’ but it seems Lisa is hiding a sense of inferiority.”

On the other hand, many fans defended themselves, pointing out that Lisa didn’t thank Lilies, she just pointed them out. They criticized the post’s author for trying to stir up discord among Blackpink’s fans:

  • “Look at this attempt to stir up discord again.” The members say they’re like family, so why are these kids acting like sasaengs?
  • “Actually, Blinks don’t care. Is it BLACKPINK’s fault that your idol didn’t win?!”
  • “You’re starting to argue again, haha.”
  • “If your Jennie deserves the award, would you vote for her a little more? If you had used your time spying on Lisa’s Instagram to vote, she would have won ㅠㅠ What are we doing~~”
  • “Wow, this is really an unfair attack. Lisa couldn’t attend the VMAs, so she spoke via video and actually mentioned Blinks. Don’t embarrass the foreign member, who is sincere toward Korea, ㅠ”
  • “Seriously, these Jennie fans can’t let go of Lisa ㅠㅠ Follow your idols and don’t mention Lisa.”
  • “The day Rosé and Lisa won an award at one of the four major awards shows in America, Jennie only posted photos of herself and didn’t even post a congratulation… In this case, they’re no better than her.”
  • “Translating ‘we won’ literally makes it weird… The closest meaning is ‘we got the award.’ She’s thanking her fans, so who else would she thank? There’s no need for all this fuss.”
  • “Because they didn’t win the award, they write posts like this and curse… I really don’t want to be associated with them. Yes, the award only went to Lisa and Rosé.”
  • “Jennie’s fans were lying about her having the most mentions on Twitter, but it was revealed that Lisa was the highest. Fans of other members don’t fake it, but Jennie’s fans’ fakery is nothing new.”
