Controversy surrounding the character of Kim Gun-woo, a contestant on Mnet’s audition show “Boys II Planet” has been circulating since the first day of broadcast. The production team realized the seriousness of the matter and immediately began investigating the facts.
On the 17th, the production team for “Boys II Planet” issued an official statement, stating, “We confirm the accuracy of the information circulated on social media,” and “we are investigating the details not only from the person mentioned in the post, but also from the staff at B Entertainment at the time and those around them.” They added, “We are closely examining whether there are any legal issues.”
Previously, an online community published a post revealing trainee Kim Gun-woo’s past personal issues. The writer alleged that Kim Gun-woo was favored by higher-ups at the company during his training, was dubbed the “King of B-list Entertainment,” and that he used vulgar language toward some staff and fellow trainees as a result.
The post included allegations that he used offensive language such as “What’s wrong with you, bastard?” and “You’re a bastard about to be fired,” as well as suspicions that he skipped dance classes to drink and used public funds while traveling to Japan. The writer bolstered the allegations by revealing his mental health treatment history and documents related to his contract.
More evidence of Kim Gun-woo’s controversial behavior
Subsequently, two additional whistleblowers emerged and validated his entertainment contract, further escalating the controversy.
As the controversy escalated, viewers responded by saying, “If this is true, his departure is inevitable,” and “A thorough investigation by the broadcasting company is necessary.” On the other hand, some took a cautious stance, saying, “We have to wait for the results of the official investigation.” Kim Gunwoo was chosen as the center of the signal vocals for “Boys II Planet K” and has garnered significant attention since before the show’s debut. Since Song Han Bin, who was the center of last season’s signal songs, debuted as the leader of Zero Base One, Kim Gun Woo has also gained attention as one of the next generation’s runners, but this controversy is expected to have a significant impact on his image.
Meanwhile, “Boyz 2 Planet” is a global boy band project produced by Mnet, following last season’s “Boyz Planet.” The program targets international fans by featuring the Korean version, “K Planet,” and the Chinese version, “C Planet,” together.
