A woman in her 30s accused of posting malicious comments and threats against actress Han Ji-min (42) has finally been brought to trial.
According to the legal community on the 29th, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office indicted Ms. Lee without detention on October 20 on charges of intimidation and insult. Ms. Lee is accused of posting 19 threatening messages on her personal social media account between September and October of last year, including statements such as “I’ll sabotage the movie Han Ji-min appears in” and “Shut your mouth.” It is reported that she tagged Han Ji-min and her acquaintances in the posts.
Han Ji-min’s agency, BH Entertainment, filed a complaint against Ms. Lee with the Gangnam Police Station last year. The police, with the cooperation of the social media platform, were able to identify Ms. Lee’s identity. After summoning Han Ji-min for questioning as the complainant, the police referred Ms. Lee to the prosecution in March with a recommendation for indictment. The prosecution also conducted additional questioning of Han Ji-min and Ms. Lee.
Ms. Lee reportedly committed the crime after news broke in August last year about Han Ji-min’s romantic relationship with Choi Jung-hoon, the vocalist of the band Jannabi. Han Ji-min is said to have suffered psychological distress due to the malicious posts.
At the time of filing the complaint, Han Ji-min’s agency warned, “We will continue to take strong legal action against ongoing defamation and insults directed at Ms. Han through various social media platforms, online communities, cafes, and portal sites.”
Meanwhile, Han Ji-min is publicly dating Choi Jung-hoon, the vocalist of the band Jannabi, who is ten years her junior. She recently appeared in JTBC’s More Beautiful Than Heaven and has been cast as the lead in the upcoming JTBC drama The Efficient Meeting of Single Men and Women, set to air next year.
