illit‘s Wonhee is facing heavy criticism from Blackpink fans for recent statements that some have deemed misleading.
The controversy between illite’s Wonhee and Blackpink fans (known as Blinks) stems from a statement that appeared to have been mistranslated during an interview.
Wonhee’s statement that was circulated by most of the X platform pages: “In my opinion, when it comes to the most popular girl group, it’s always been TWICE.”
During an interview, illite member Wonhee mentioned TWICE as the most popular girl group, sparking backlash from some Blackpink fans who expressed their displeasure at her disregard for Blackpink’s global achievements and popularity.
Despite clarifications shared by several pages regarding the mistranslation of Wonhee’s statement, which appeared to be used to spark a fan war between Once (TWICE fans) and Blink (Blackpink fans), Wonhee was the victim of all these controversies.
A fan shared the exact translation of WONHEE’s statement: WONHEE said that, “In my opinion, when I think of K-pop girl groups, the first group that comes to mind is TWICE sunbaenim. Since I was young, TWICE were always someone my friends watched and who naturally became a part of my daily life.”
Numerous posts on X (formerly Twitter) revealed the backlash against Wonhee, including malicious and offensive comments, as well as threats directed at the idol herself. The situation was further exacerbated by the fact that Wonhee is a minor.
Some argue that whether Wonhee’s statement was accurate, misinterpreted, or simply mistranslated, it ultimately expresses her own opinion, and does not justify the attacks or harsh criticism from Blinks against the idol.
A fan criticized Elite member Wonhee’s unjustified attack: “my question is where in this quote did she discredit any other group,” she never said she didn’t like BP or that they weren’t popular, she just praised another group that is also very popular, especially in Korea, this doesn’t and shouldn’t affect BP in anyway, y r ppl so mad???”
