A few days ago, on November 12 , GOT7’s Mark spoke to NME magazine for an interview. During his interview with the music magazine, he revealed that he was considering quitting music altogether.
In the interview, he revealed that his GOT7 members have always wanted to try to pursue their own solo music path. However, Mark did not share this sentiment while promoting GOT7, saying that he is unable to identify his unique music color when he was in the boy group. He said he didn’t “really want” to do his own music while he was a member of GOT7. He added that when he returned to Los Angeles after his contract with JYP Entertainment expired, he wasn’t sure if he wanted to continue pursuing his solo music. And since he’s been with GOT7 all throughout his twenties, he feels comfortable where he is. “Doing everything on your own is too much pressure,” Mark told NME.
He also wondered if he would have the ability to perform an entire song on his own and if he would be able to get people’s attention. He revealed that he only managed to calm his reservations and fears when he returned to the studio with an open mind; There he was ready to give his music a second chance as he had a new team of producers ready to create natural music for Mark, and the magazine added that Mark realized it was too much fun to continue with the music and chose to continue. He now thinks that being a solo artist is fun because he can experiment with different sounds and is not limited to one genre.
Mark is also now able to find himself with music, and his next challenge is to overcome his K-pop idol image. So he told NME, “It’s going to take a while, but it’s also hard because as K-pop idols, we’re supposed to get that image. I have to find the right balance, and I’m still trying to figure it out.”
When Mark was with GOT7, there were seven members on their team with the help of their company. They were able to share a lot of ideas together and find the best for the group and fans. Because of this, they can tell what they want to look like and what their fans want together. However, as a solo artist, Mark has to figure out what he wants to show fans and what he wants to look like. Although he says it’s “a bit tricky” on his own, there’s still a lot he wants to try.
