GFriend Slams the Disbandment Rumor: “We Never ‘Disbanded’!”

In a highly anticipated appearance on KBS2’s The Seasons – Lee Young Ji’s Rainbow, GFriend set the record straight regarding rumors surrounding their disbandment. On January 10, the legendary K-pop group celebrated their 10th anniversary by reuniting for a special stage, proving that the bond between the members remains as strong as ever.

Opening their appearance with the iconic track “Me Gustas Tu,” the members of GFriend quickly reminded fans of their unforgettable charm. The group also delighted audiences with a breathtaking ballad rendition of “Rough,” before closing with “Seasons of Memories,” the title track from their recently released 10th-anniversary album.

However, it was their candid discussion about their hiatus that captured the most attention. Host Lee Young Ji brought up the widespread use of the word “disbandment” in the media to describe GFriend’s absence. With clarity, Sowon responded, “Yes, many news outlets claimed that we disbanded. But that’s simply not true. Our contracts expired, but that doesn’t mean we disbanded. It was just a hiatus, and we came back after four years. We’ve never disbanded.”

This statement sent a strong message to the group’s fans, known as BUDDY, reassuring them that GFriend’s hiatus was merely due to the natural expiration of their contracts, not a permanent separation. The group emphasized how meaningful their reunion was, especially for the significant milestone of their 10th anniversary.

As the members expressed their gratitude toward their loyal fans, they shared the tireless efforts they put into their preparations, which included planning for their upcoming concert, Asia tour, and numerous music program appearances. “We were so eager to meet our fans face to face, and we didn’t take a single day off,” the group said. They also added, “We used to ask, ‘Did you wait long?’ but this time, it truly was a long wait. Thank you for never changing and supporting us throughout the years. We will always be grateful to our BUDDY.”

GFriend’s much-anticipated 10th anniversary album, Season of Memories, was officially released on streaming platforms worldwide on January 6, KST, while the physical album will be available on January 13 at 6 PM KST. This comeback marks not just a return to music but a statement against the rumors that have surrounded the group for years. GFriend has made it clear: they never truly disbanded.
