Forbes Stirs Controversy With Provocative Article About Jennie’s Solo Career

Forbes magazine generated outrage among K-pop fans after publishing an article with a provocative headline on the newest study of Jennie’s solo career since leaving her agency YG. The report branded her new song Love Hangover as the “lowest point in her career,” causing considerable dissatisfaction among her followers.

The article’s author, Hugh McIntyre, stated that the song, which she collaborated with Dominic Fick, “failed to enter the UK Top 40,” something that has happened once in Jennie’s solo career. He noted that Love Hangover ranked 64th on the Official Singles chart, which he considered a significant decline compared to her previous songs.

The author shared his shock at the song’s performance, saying, “Despite her collaboration with Dominic Fick, the result was disappointing.”

Jennie has had some impressive solo successes before, including You & Me, which reached No. 39 in October 2023, and One Of The Girls with The Weeknd, which reached No. 21 and stayed on the chart for 17 weeks. Her song Mantra from her upcoming album Ruby also reached No. 37. Despite the criticism, Love Hangover performed better on the sales and downloads charts, entering the top 10 on both the Official Singles Sales and Official Singles Downloads charts, reflecting the support of her huge fan base.

Although the performance of the song “Love Hangover” did not live up to expectations, especially with the presence of a large collaboration with singer Dominic, some analysts believe that this decline may be a result of the lack of promotion for the song more than being an indication of the decline in popularity of Jennie, who is currently preparing to release her album.

With the release of her first studio album Ruby approaching, expectations were clearly very high, and the many releases and busy schedule of the idol may have led to less promotion. Some also point out that the timing of the release coincided with fierce competition in the music scene with pop and K-pop stars, which affected the song’s ranking. Nevertheless, the support of Jennie’s strong fan base remains crucial to the success of her future projects.
