This training was conducted with the South Korean military’s 2nd Corps from January 6 to January 17, 2025, in regions like Chuncheon, Hwacheon, and Hongcheon, where temperatures reached as low as minus 20°C. The primary aim of this training was to enhance soldiers’ combat readiness and resilience under harsh winter conditions.
Cold Weather Training: Essential for Military Preparedness
The extreme cold weather training in the South Korean military is specifically designed to test and improve endurance, survival skills, and teamwork in sub-zero environments. Soldiers engage in activities such as skiing with full gear, constructing shelters in snow-covered terrains, and performing tactical maneuvers. Taehyung enlisted for his mandatory military service on December 12, 2023, as a member of the Special Duty Team (SDT) under the 2nd Army Corps. The SDT is trained for counter-terrorism, reconnaissance, and high-risk operations, making their training rigorous and intense.
