While the band’s name stands for “Color Outside The Lines,” it departs from traditional acronyms by randomly pulling letters from the alphabet instead of the initials of each word.

Alongside the launch of the band’s official social media accounts, Big Hit Music unveiled a series of TikTok videos on August 7 at 12 a.m. KST. The first video, which revealed the name CORTIS for the first time, was created using the same music creation software Martin typically uses.

Previously, some birth details about the band members were shared:

  • Martin, the band leader, was born on March 20, 2008.
  • James, was born on October 14, 2005.
  • Jooheon, was born on January 3, 2008.
  • Sunghyun, was born on January 13, 2009.
  • Kyunho, was born on February 14, 2009.

Netizens praised the group’s style and name, saying, “I like their style.” “Oh, the group name sounds good.” “Oh, so they changed their name? What were they called before? Ah, I forgot. Something weird?” “Oh, so they changed their name? What were they called before? Ah, I forgot. Something weird?”

Although fans are excited for Big Hit’s upcoming debut, many expressed dissatisfaction with the group’s name, saying, “It’s unfortunate that the name is disappointing compared to the members’ lineup.”

The fact that the band’s leader will be among its youngest members surprised many online. However, as was the case with Enhypen and Jungwon, it is not uncommon for HYBE to select a younger leader as opposed to an older one. As was to be expected, some also noted how strange it was for someone from 2008 to make their debut, much less as a leader, considering that the band also has two members who were born in 2009.

A “young creative team” of teens in their tens, CORTIS is set to make its official debut on August 18 KST. Every member will provide the group their special talents, such as choreography, videography, songwriting, etc.

The group is set to release its first music video on August 11.
