Actors Kim so-hyun and Jo Bo-ah will meet in a relationship with the “fake king” and aspirations for the chemistry of the actors arouse curiosity, are they in the hearts of viewers around the world?
On the 21st (local time), a press conference was held at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Center in Singapore for Disney+’s original content ‘Knock-Off’ at the ‘Disney Content Showcase APAC 2024’.
Kim so-hyun plays Kim Sung-joon, who gets a job at a large company and lives a life of stable success, but after becoming unemployed overnight due to the IMF, he is forced to engage in counterfeit sales to earn initial funds for his business. The drama depicts the process of Kim Sung-joon, who became the vice chairman of the ‘Saemmul Market’ after entering the fake market in earnest after tasting sweet money, and then became the king of the counterfeit market beyond Korea and around the world with his extraordinary brain, improvisation, and strong desire.
Kim so-hyun, who transformed into the ‘Fake King’ through ‘Knockoff’, said, “I tried not to store any emotions inside me in this work. When I feel a certain emotion, I express it as soon as the stimulus comes in.”
Jo Bo-ah plays Song Hye-jung, Kim Sung-joon’s former lover and a special judicial police officer in charge of cracking down on counterfeit goods. Jo Boa, who showed a new side through ‘Knockoff’, said, “I’m working on my work by having more conversations on the set and focusing a lot on the script. There is a strong tendency for period dramas to depict the late 90s and 2000s, so I prepared it in a fun way by referring to the old scenes and references.”
Kim so-hyun’s romance performance in ‘Knockoff’ will not be easy to find. Romance accounts for about 15%. Kim so-hyun said, “If Baek Hyun-woo in ‘Queen of Tears’ is a sweet and warm role, Kim Sung-jun this time is a realistic character who is cold and dispassionate for survival,” and Kim so-hyun said, “When I read the script, the material was very attractive. It was interesting not only how Kim Sung survived, but also the process of becoming a global counterfeit king from an ordinary office worker to a trader. I thought it would be fun to express the process.”
Jo Bo-ah also chose ‘Knock Off’ because of the script. Jo Boa, who revealed that she was attracted by the charm of the material, confessed, “I enjoyed reading it because it expresses the background of the time period and the nostalgia that comes from it can give a lot of feeling.”
Director Park Hyun Suk revealed that he did not cast the two actors, but “was chosen” and explained, “I was anxiously waiting for an answer, but thankfully they chose me,” adding, “One is the one who has to be caught and the other is the one who is being chased, so the chemistry is different from the one shown in the previous dramas, but I am sure that they both have great chemistry.”
Kim so-hyun commented on Jo Bo-ah’s chemistry, saying, “I didn’t know that I would use the word that her personality is so round, but she is really round. No matter what line I say, he will accept it smoothly,” he said, adding, “Not only Jo Bo-ah, but also the director is easy to talk to, and we talk about various things on the spot besides acting and scripts. Thanks to this, we are working in a friendly atmosphere.”
Jo Boa said about Kim so-hyun, “Thanks to her eyes, tone of voice, and creating an environment where you can’t help but be immersed, she is comfortable on the set and has a lot of reliance on the film. I’m so grateful”, but added, “We haven’t been able to shoot together much to call it chemistry. That’s why I’m looking forward to more chemistry in the future.”
Lastly, director Park Hyun Suk said, “I’ve been filming for a long time, but it’s really fun. I’m happy with the process of working with so many actors, including the two actors.”
Meanwhile, if the first day of the showcase (20th) was a venue to unveil trailers and exclusive videos of Disney creative studios around the world, the second day was dedicated to Disney+’s original lineup of local original content, mainly from Korea and Japan.
