NewJeans member Hanni has reached a settlement with an individual who posted malicious comments against her.
On the 27th, the Seoul Southern District Court’s Criminal Division 14 dismissed the indictment against “A,” who was charged with defamation for leaving insulting comments directed at Hanni.
Last October, A had written an offensive comment under an article about Hanni, saying:“What the hell is this b*tch talking about? Crying and want me to help you, huh?”
The article at the time reported on Hanni’s appearance as a witness at the National Assembly’s Environment and Labor Committee audit, where she became emotional while speaking about the unfair treatment she experienced at her agency.
The prosecution initially decided to bring A to a formal trial rather than a summary indictment, but it was later revealed that A reached a settlement with Hanni’s side before sentencing.
Korean netizens were very divided over the situation, with some angry that Hani forgave the accused, while others mocked the case and downplayed the severity of the comment:
- Such people shouldn’t be forgiven… it’s a habit, they’ll do it again 100%.
- The company is always at an advantage when signing contracts with artists. The company can terminate it freely, while the artist has to file a lawsuit. Just pay the penalty, right? Just pay the customs, right? The U.S. helped us so much when our country was poor.
- She’s really the most beautiful. Totally my type.
- I really don’t understand why a black-haired foreigner makes over 5 billion won in Korea and then criticizes the Korean entertainment industry. ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
- I thought it was EXID’s Hani, I’m pissed off.
- What’s so great that you’re filing a lawsuit? ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
- The standard for what counts as an insult seems lower than I thought.
- Ah, she’s so cute and pretty ㅠㅠ…
- Shouldn’t have settled… people like that are repeat offenders.
