aespa member Ningning has become the center of attention for his statement regarding her Instagram posts, which some have linked to the recent lip sync controversy.
On the 22nd, Ningning posted on her personal account, “I want to delete all posts, but would that bother you?” along with a ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ vote, drawing public attention.
Later, Ningning revealed the overwhelming vote results from fans who opposed deleting the posts, expressing her question, “Why?”
Recently, aespa faced controversy over lip-syncing during the broadcast stage of their new song ‘Rich Man’. On the 13th, when appearing on the American ABC representative morning show ‘Good Morning America’, their stage was criticized for lacking completeness compared to expectations. The dance skills of some members were also put under scrutiny.
Previously, aespa was criticized for lip-syncing during a university festival event. At the 2022 Korea University festival, all four songs they performed were lip-synced. After aespa’s stage ended, the university community was flooded with criticism. One netizen expressed disappointment, saying, “I’ve never seen lip-syncing at a university festival. Is it right to cheer for singers who lip-sync?”
aespa continues promotions with their sixth mini-album ‘Rich Man’, released on the 5th. ‘Rich Man’ recorded 1.11 million pre-orders, predicting a 7th consecutive million-seller, as well as achieving No.1 on iTunes Top Album Charts in 14 regions worldwide, No.1 on China’s QQ Music Overall and EP Digital Album Sales Charts, Platinum Certification (sales exceeding 1 million yuan), No.1 on Trendpeak Charts, No.1 on Overall and Korean Music Video Charts, No.1 on Kugou Music Digital Album Sales Chart, No.1 on Tencent Music K-POP Chart, and No.1 on Japan’s AWA Real-time Trending, sweeping various global charts.
aespa will hold an arena tour with over 10,000 seats, starting in Fukuoka on October 4-5, Tokyo on October 11-12, Aichi on October 18-19, Tokyo on November 8-9, Bangkok on November 15-16, and Osaka on November 26-27.
Korean netizens criticized Ningning’s post, deeming it unprofessional behavior, while some pointed out that all of the group’s performances involve lip-syncing and poor dancing. Read the comments:
- “If it’s lip-sync, they’re no longer singers.”
- “Watching their live videos, they were barely breathing while dancing, are they even dancers???”
- “SM is most famous for plastic surgery, isn’t it?”
- “This has been SM’s tradition from the start. They say it’s live, but play MR and AR heavily. Is there even an SM artist who doesn’t do this? It’s hard to find videos of those who do pure live.”
- “Compared to Twice, they probably sing better live.”
- “But Ningning did well…”
- “Are they preparing to go back to their home country?”
- “They’re not singers, they’re dancers. What kind of singer only lip-syncs?”
- “They always pick pretty and handsome people who just dance, so they’re not really singers.”
- “Asking whether to delete posts is funny, and then questioning ‘Why?’—their real skill and behavior are all disappointing.”
- “You need to have talent… Anyway, when do they ever rest? They’re running too much.”
- “So what? China is even faker anyway.”
- “At least make it look like you’re trying.”
- “In China, domestic demand is strong, so with word-of-mouth and marketing you can get rich, but Korea has only 50 million people. If the festival MC jokes ‘your tuition is exploding’ at fireworks, it shows again, lol.”
- “They’re not a group that can’t perform live, but they lip-sync and get criticized for it… if they performed live, they’d do well but wouldn’t get criticized as much.”
- “There are no tycoons like in China here, at most conglomerates.”
- “Singing while dancing is exhausting. Still, at a university festival, they should perform live. It’s students’ money, their tuition, precious money.”
- “If they’ve messed up, practice and show it live… there are fans too. Deleting posts, what kind of protest is that??”
