SBS’s Beloved Show Hits Four-Month Low

“My Ugly Duckling” has recorded its lowest ratings in four months.

According to Nielsen Korea, the SBS Show “My Ugly Duckling” aired on the 21st recorded a nationwide viewership rating of 8.5%. This marks the lowest rating of the year, following the 7.6% recorded on May 18.

On this day’s broadcast, Yoon Hyun-min visited Shin Seung-hun to practice singing for his half-brother’s upcoming wedding. When asked, “When did you first meet your half-brother?” Yoon replied, “I first met him while performing ancestral rites at my father’s home when I was in middle school. That was when my father explained everything. You often see these kinds of moments portrayed as shocking in dramas, but my father explained it well, and I was able to accept my brother naturally, as if it flowed like water.”

The episode also showed Kim Seung-soo and Im Won-hee going on blind dates. Kim Seung-soo, with a nervous expression, continued his blind date and eventually asked his partner for her contact information, attempting to schedule a follow-up. However, she refused to give her number, leaving him disappointed.

Im Won-hee conducted his blind date in his own style, and like Kim Seung-soo, he asked for the woman’s contact information at the end. But unlike Kim Seung-soo’s situation, the woman surprised viewers by handing her phone to Im Won-hee and directly entering her number.

Here are some of the reactions from Korean netizens:

  • “This is not in line with the purpose of ‘My Ugly Duckling’… I don’t understand why divorced people boast and make it a material for entertainment.”
  • “If there’s nothing else to do, just cancel it.”
  • “Are they still doing this show??”
  • “Ever since the strongest Crown Prince Kim Guk-jong appeared, it stopped being fun.”
  • “This show is seriously boring, such a waste of airtime.”
  • “Now they even have Kim Jun-ho, Kim Ji-min, and even their moms appearing, who’s even watching!!! Does this match the purpose of My Ugly Duckling?”
  • “What’s the point of this show? The reality itself is gone; the writers create all the situations, weren’t people aware?”
  • “Are there still people watching? Even if it’s on, just switch to another channel.”
  • “Cancel this and just continue My Turn~~~.”
  • “No one should watch this, I haven’t watched it in a long time. Only then it might get canceled.”
  • “Enough already… let’s end it.”
  • “It’s surprising that it still gets 8.5%.”
  • “It was really not fun at all.”
  • “Isn’t it obvious? If someone is married, they shouldn’t appear, yet they do. Multiple cast members appear together.”
  • “Stop already. Nothing is improving, and the losses continue.”
  • “Wasn’t 7.6% manipulated? Are there people still watching divorced SBS shows like Running Man? I want to know… the storytelling is good, but the entertainment aspect is terrible. Add My Turn too.”
  • “Even though they’re married, they keep appearing, and it’s really off-putting. I used to watch on YouTube if I missed the live broadcast, but now I don’t. ‘I Live Alone’ ended before weddings anyway.”
  • “Why don’t they refresh these variety shows that have been running for over 10 years? Why are the same people always appearing? Only older celebrities show up, younger ones barely appear. What’s the standard? Is it connections? How long do we have to keep seeing divorced, remarried people rotating?”
  • “My Ugly Duckling, I Live Alone, and Before the Camera… it’s not a social club, let’s just stop.”
  • “It’s more surprising that it still gets 7% lol.”
  • “I got tired of watching Kim Jun-ho and Kim Ji-min during their wedding preparations, so I stopped watching, and sure enough…”
