Actress Kim Go Eun revealed the reason why she shed tears at the press conference for “Eun Jung and Sang Yeon.”
In an interview held on the 22nd at a café in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, Kim Go Eun shared her thoughts:
“After finishing the project, I felt a great sense of relief. Especially this time, I received many messages from fellow actors, which made me proud.”
“Eun Jung and Sang Yeon” is a drama that depicts, in a long breath, the lives of two friends entangled in admiration and jealousy toward each other. Kim Go Eun played Eun Jung, who accompanies her terminally ill friend Sang Yeon (Park Ji Hyun) to Switzerland at her request, delicately portraying the emotional journey.
Because of her deep attachment to the project, Kim Go Eun burst into tears at the production presentation. Regarding this, she explained:
“In fact, in 2023 I lost my closest friend. What was really amazing was that the projects I was filming at the time were ‘Love in the Big City’ and ‘Eun Jung and Sang Yeon.’ Both are centered on stories of friendship in your twenties.”
She continued, “I thought of ‘Eun Jung and Sang Yeon’ as a work in which Eun Jung tells Sang Yeon’s story as the one left behind. So in the scene of letting Sang Yeon go, I felt a strong desire to send her off well. Since there are not many chances in life to properly let go of something precious, the emotions overwhelmed me even more.”
When asked, “If someone like Sang Yeon asked you to go to Switzerland with them, what would you do?” Kim Go Eun immediately answered, “I think I would go.” Recalling her late grandmother, she added:
“At that time, I promised to stay by her side until the end, so I spent three nights in the hospital without sleeping. I am grateful that I could be with her. Even though it can be sad to think about, there are many more good memories. I feel comforted knowing I accompanied her well at the end.”
In the comments section, Korean netizens praised the drama. The responses were full of emotion and praise, but also included some criticism. Here’s what they had to say:
- “It felt like watching a novel through video… I really enjoyed it.”
- “Crying then laughing, I’m watching it carefully… Eun Jung and Sang Yeon’s roles fit perfectly! When Sang Yeon cried, I cried with her. When I realized Senior Sang Hak was that pathetic Myung Oh from The Glory, I was shocked. What a transformation. Anyway, it’s the best^^”
- “Sang Yeon’s acting was insane… I could really empathize.”
- “After The Good Bad Mother, this is the best drama!”
- “The episodes are longer than I thought, but I really enjoyed it. I hated Sang Yeon, then pitied her, cursed at her, then cried… ㅜㅜ”
- “I’m afraid I won’t be able to handle the emotions if I empathize too much, so I haven’t watched it yet.”
- “Having someone like Sang Yeon by your side would ruin your life. You’d just become an emotional trash can.”
- “The best masterpiece I’ve seen recently.”
- “I really enjoyed this drama, both actors did such a great job.”
- “Sometimes I miss Eun Gyo too.”
- “I thought Mask Girl was the best, but this is even better. Without excessive media play like The Good Bad Mother, this reached perfection with just script, direction, and acting.”
- “They must be talking about actor Na Chul. He rarely posted others on his Instagram feed, but after his passing, I remember seeing him come up a few times.”
- “Are they talking about actor Na Chul… Once again, may he rest in peace.”
- “I enjoyed it so much. The lingering feelings won’t fade. I understood Eun Jung, Sang Yeon, and even Sang Hak, which made me fall deeper. Kim’s acting is the best, but she also chooses great projects.”
- “Switzerland… why are you spoiling it”
- “Kim Go Eun’s acting seemed lacking compared to the others.”
- “Stop appearing everywhere.”
- “The twist was unnecessary and uncomfortable.”
- “Who knew such a pink color could suit someone… she’s a doll.”
- “The two best dramas I got from Netflix this year~~ The Good Bad Mother and Eun Jung and Sang Yeon.”
- “She’s an actress destined for greatness, but she’s rising way too late.”
Released on the 12th, “Eun Jung and Sang Yeon” has maintained the No. 1 spot in Netflix Korea’s TV Top 10 chart right after its release, receiving hot attention from viewers.
