EXID Hani’s Fiancé Faces Backlash After Patient Death

Hani, what should we do… Petition for Severe Punishment of Yang Jae-woong Over ‘Patient Death’ Surpasses 10,000 Signatures”

Over 10,000 people have joined a petition demanding severe punishment for psychiatrist and broadcaster Yang Jae-woong, who is also EXID Hani’s fiancé.

According to a report by Hankyoreh on the 11th, the Korean Alliance on Mental Illness conducted a petition calling for criminal punishment against Yang Jae-woong and related parties, with a total of 10,753 people participating.

The petition, which began on August 14, has drawn participation from people with mental disabilities, workers in related institutions, students, and non-disabled individuals from all walks of life. It is scheduled to continue until the 15th.

Once the petition concludes, the Korean Alliance on Mental Illness plans to submit the petition and related materials to the prosecution and the court.

Earlier, the Gyeonggi Southern Police Agency’s Criminal Investigation Unit announced last month that four people, including nurse A who worked at a hospital in Bucheon operated by Yang Jae-woong, were booked on charges of violating the Medical Service Act.

They are accused of engaging in unauthorized medical practices, such as administering drugs to patients without a doctor’s prescription.

Person A and others were accused of engaging in unlicensed medical practices, such as providing patients with medication that had not been prescribed by a doctor. With this, the number of people arrested in connection with the case increased to a total of 11, including Yang Jae-woong.

On May 27 of last year, a woman in her 30s, referred to as Ms. B, who had been hospitalized at the hospital where Yang Jae-woong was the director to receive treatment for diet pill addiction, died.

The bereaved family filed a complaint against Yang Jae-woong and hospital staff, claiming that during her hospitalization there had been unjust confinement and restraint, and in the process, she did not receive appropriate medical treatment, which led to her death.

In April of this year, the police arrested Yang Jae-woong’s hospital, carried out a search and seizure, and conducted an investigation, including requesting an appraisal from the Korea Medical Dispute Mediation and Arbitration Agency on the disputed points.

Meanwhile, in September of last year, Yang Jae-woong had been preparing to marry actress Hani, formerly of the group EXID, but the wedding was postponed indefinitely due to this incident.
